The Ren & Stimpy Show

Updated on August 17, 2014

Happy, Happy... Joy, Joy!

REN & STIMPY are a cartoon dog-and-cat pair of best friends, created by Canadian animator John Kricfalusi.  They first appeared in animated shorts, then there was The Ren & Stimpy Show (a kids TV series on Nickelodeon), then they were canceled.  Recently the pair have been re-claimed and re-animated into an adult-oriented show, REN AND STIMPY ADULT PARTY CARTOON, on SpikeTV.

Meet Ren & Stimpy

The 1st Ren & Stimpy cartoon I ever saw!

I first saw Ren & Stimpy at an animation festival in Santa Cruz, CA. I was in college. The cartoon was "Big House Blues." We first meet Ren Höek, a pedigree Asthama-Hound Chihuahua, and Stimpson J. Cat, aka Stimpy, while they are digging in the garbage, making what they can of life on the streets.

They both get picked up and taken to the dog pound. At first, life is just a comfortable party. The seemingly only bad spot in Ren's life is when he wakes up from his dream of kissing a beautiful lady to find himself kissing Stimpy, who he's been using as a bed. Ren then rinses his mouth out in a filthy toilet.

Our two heros next find themselves in danger of being sent to "the Big Sleep." Stimpy's coughing up of hairballs on Ren only adds to his misery, until a little girl mistakes him for a poodle. He's picked for adoption and then pleads for his friend Stimpy to be taken too.

The family takes them both. At their home, Stimpy is given his first material possession: a litter box. And thus ends the introduction.

THE REN & STIMPY SHOW - collected on DVD

Seasons One and Two are considered by many to be the Golden Era of Ren & Stimpy. That was back when John K. did the voice for Ren and before Nickelodeon fired him and seized control of the show.

The Lost Episodes are material from the John K. years that didn't make it to air, or was heavily edited before it did. Thanks to DVD, this funny stuff isn't lost anymore!

Pull Up The Litterbox and Watch!

Stimpy always watched TV while sitting in his most prized material possession. You can do the same if you wish while you watch these turgid excerpts.
