Snow White Movie DVD Out Of The Disney Vault...Get it Before it Goes Back!

I am a mom of two beautiful girls (10 & 12). We love to read, play, cook, shop and have fun together. I love to share great products/toys.

This was the first time my girls "met" Snow White at Disneyland. This picture melts my heart!

That’s right, after a long TEN years, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs DVD and Snow White Two-Disc Blue-ray/DVD Combo were released from Disney’s Vault!

Are you wondering what the heck the Disney Vault is, anyway? Well, it’s not an actual vault; it’s a “process” that Disney started to control their market and to allow their movies to be new and fresh for new generations of kids. Frustrating for Disney and film fans alike, but a genius – some may say – marketing strategy.

This re-releasing of films actually began with the 1937 reissue of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1944. Reissues used to be every 7 years (same time gap as their theatrical reissues), but, since the transition to DVD technology, the moratorium period was increased to 10 years.

Once they are ready to re-release a movie, TV commercials galore will advertise it and will make sure to let you know that it will be available “for a limited time only”, after which it will go back “into the vault” and won’t be available again for many years.

While this may be a great marketing strategy for Disney, the side effect for consumers is that it opens up the market to counterfeit DVDs, and it raises the price of the real ones that are floating around at places like Ebay because they become “collectibles.”

I watched Snow White on the ABC Family channel and found that, according to the pre-movie disclaimer, Snow White had not only been cut in order to fit in all of the commercials, it had been "edited for content!!" Now what politically incorrect content could there be in Snow White?? Did the National Organization of Women complain because Snow White was NOT a lesbian?? Did a dwarf group complain because of the "stereotypical representation" of dwarves??" I'm just curious. But good luck finding an E mail/contact address on the ABC Family site.

Oh my gosh - my girls are 3 and 4 and are SOOOOO into all the Disney princesses AND all the Barbie movies (Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper is my personal favorite - fantastic music!). I'm taking my girls this week to see Disney on Ice, Princess Classics for the first time and I think I'm more excited for them than they are to see it!

Like most entertainment companies, Disney is feeling directly the affects of this recession. It will help somewhat to bring out Snow White. Don

Yes, it is, Dohn, the October 6th release is a combo - Blu-ray AND DVD. The DVD by itself is being released on November 29th. You must have skipped over the "Snow White movie & items available for pre-order" section ;-) Thanks for visiting!

It doesn't sound like this is going to be available on regular DVD. I still have yet to buy a Blue-Ray player! It's probably because I don't have a flat-panel TV yet either! Oh well. All in good time, I guess! I do already have Snow White and it is definitely a must have (I owned over 30 Pixar and Disney movies so far). Thanks, Lily Rose!
