Forgive Me - A Chained Melody

Updated on July 1, 2020

Evidently, I can't repeat the impact of the first chained letter (there's only one first of everything, what do you know), but I thought I wouldn't leave it unanswered. I aimed for a shorter, to the point reply, but with longer stanzas. I found it complicated to do the whole letter with complete stanzas, so some of these are single lines, as you will see in the credits. Enjoy.

Chained Melody

It's been raining since you left me, now I'm drowning in the flood. I'm sorry that I hurt you, it's something I must live with everyday. And all the pain I put you through, I wish that I could take it all away.

What do I do to make you want me? What have I got to do to be heard? What do I say when it's all over, and sorry seems to be the hardest word? I still love you, baby. Everywhere I look I see your eyes, there isn't a woman that comes close to you, come on baby, dry your eyes.

Don't leave me this way, I can't survive, I can't stay alive without your love. You're the first, my last, my everything. What I'd give to run my fingers through your hair, touch your lips, hold you near.... Words don't come easy to me, how can I find a way to make you see I love you?

I'm not a perfect person, I never meant to do those things to you. Can you help me remember how to smile, make it somehow all seem worthwhile? How on earth did I get so jaded, life's mystery seems so faded ...

Illusion never changed into something real, and I have no illusions that I'll ever find a glimpse of summer heat waves in your eyes, but If we'd go again all the way from the start, I would try to change the things that killed our love.

Please forgive me, I can't stop loving you.

Cheers right back, Buffoon! Just checked your profile, your name rang a bell... and you're the dude that wrote about swimsuits for men. You may yet be the cleverest Buffoon in YOUR side of Pecos :-)

So I read the first one and then this "encore". Despite your intro, I do think you kept it up. Clever, creative and totally imaginative, I'm really glad I stumbled upon your stuff! Cheers!

Thanks much, camlo! I think you'd like the predecesor to this one, "Goodbye - A Chained Melody", since this one is an answer to that.

It wasn't hard to find the right lines and stanzas but boy, was it hard work putting them together :-) It was lots of fun, though!

Hi Elena! This is amazing! Much more than clever. And original. I can't imagine how you might have come up with this -- you have my greatest admiration.

      All the very best, Camlo

Despite your opening apologia this lives up to the first - they are equally brilliant.

But ... (ah, hem) ..."could it be that I've finally gone bonkers?"  Finally ???????

Hmmmmm... I hear voices in my head.... could it possibly be a, hmmm, subliminal message from beyond cyberspace? Or could it be that I've finally gone bonkers? Oh, I just don't know, something's killing me softly with this song!

Elena. You MUST feed the frenzy. (This was a subliminal message, brought to you by... "Hello" and "Forever" and by the makers of "chains" and "wings") This message will self destruct when, and only when, another chained hub has been published. (laughs maniacaly)

Buenos días, Frieda! Errrr, I'm afraid this should be the last ... lyrics are randomly floating in my mind and it's getting to be a bit disturbing. And I'm disturbed enough as it is, don't need to feed the frenzy :-)

Morning, everyone, and thank you for the comments!

I've had one of these lines stuck in my head since posting this yesterday, I can't shake it! Funny thing is, I don't even hear its music, I just have the line perpetually crossing the inside of my brain, like one of those electronic red banners... arghhh  I guss that'll teach me! :)

As I read the poem I was going to tell you it reminded me of the lyrics to songs that were coming into focus in the back of my mind......but never mind....how very clever.....And I can't get enough of your love baby....Barry White....now I'll be singing songs all day.

Luckily, I won't have these songs running through my head! I recognize the lyrics but never knew the melodies all that well. Good job, Elena! I don't know how you do it!

I'll be singing all morning with these great songs running through my head. Another inventive hub with interesting implications for "found" poetry. Cool
