Sorry Donkey, Tangled's Maximus has arrived!

Updated on November 7, 2014

My most favourite Movie of ALL TIME used to be Shrek...and Donkey was IT.

Until Tangled arrived. Oh my word! What a lot of fun!

I love animated movies, and Shrek was just so different with it's rehash of all the familiar characters from fairy tales - I LOVED it. But this retake on Rapunzel is just the most fun I've had in ages. The twists on all the characters are great and I loved them all, but...sorry Donkey...Maximus is in the house.

Maximus the hound-horse personifies everything I love in an animated character. Facial expressions. Personality quirks. And best of all...he doesn't say a word during the whole movie. Nope. Not one.

But, man, he's right in the middle of the action.

That's what makes this horse so special. All of his character is depicted with his expressions, action and interaction with the other characters. Priceless! It made my year when I first rolled on the floor watching this.

He follows the trail (hound) of the "bad guy" Flynn Ryder and the fun that develops in their tangled relationship is a whoot to watch. Loosely based on Rapunzel, a Brothers Grimm fairy tale, it follows the life of Princess Rapunzel who is kidnapped as a baby by an enchantress Gothel, who uses Rapunzels' beautiful golden hair with magical healing abilities to stay young. On her 18th birthday, Rapunzel, who is kept locked up in a tower, knocks out the thief Flynn who blunders into the tower looking for a safe hideout.

This ends up as a journey of discovery for Rapunzel as she is shown the dangers of the big outside world by Flynn, who just wants to get rid of her already! The twists and turns of this tangled tale is so much fun to watch. I totally disappeared in the drama unfolding and laughed my head off at the antics of ALL the characters. The other non-talking animal (Disney did that? Really?) is Pascal, a green, extremely entertaining chameleon, Rapunzel's pet...cute...really cute!

As the 50th Movie in Walt Disney's Animated Classics series released in November 2010, it was reputed to be the most expensive animated movie ever produced. It took 6 years to make! It's unique look combined regular traditional animation with computer generated imagery but used non-photorealistic rendering to give the film its feel of a painting. Awesome!

My most favorite moment? When Maximus thumps Flynn sideways when Rapunzel looks away!

If you're looking for some fun, action and a wonderful interplay between really great characters, set in a beautiful background, you'll enjoy this. And hopefully roll on the floor hollering like I did!

There was also a short movie, Tangled ever After, made in 2012...which I didn't know about until I did this review...Gonna go watch it RIGHT NOW!!! [Update: Watched it!!! Hilarious!!!]

If you haven't seen Tangled, maybe watching these scenes from the movie (about Maximus only...LOL) will inspire you to make the time.

If you have, watch them with me again....and again...and again....hahahahaha!!!

Update: Have also added "Tangled Ever After" if you want to watch it here...it's real short....and real hilarious...typical Maximus and Pascal!

Funny Maximus Moments from Tangled .

Maximus, you ROCK boy!

Tangled Ever After: Some more typical Maximus! Hilarious!

Shrek
Shrek
This used to be my most favourite movie... Really sorry Donkey! It was made by Dreamworks, another magic movie company.

If you're into animated movies like me, you might have enjoyed these other ones too. I love the multilayered themes and ideas of these movies which make them great for kids of ALL ages up to and past 90.

If not, maybe your kids, or nieces, or nephews, or grandchildren or...nevermind...

I just know that kids love to watch these over and over and over again, and they can usually quote them back at you, verbatim, sound effects and all! What a treat! A magic way to keep them properly entertained with good clean fun...for hours...and hours...

Frozen
Frozen
One of the latest releases by Disney. It's OK, but not as good as Tangled...for me...

Do you like animated movies? Have you seen Tangled? What did you think? Would love to hear from you! Thanks for clopping by!
