Synth Single Review: “Breathe’’ by Alex Boychuk & Z.Y.L.A.R
Alex Boychuk & Z.Y.L.A.R.'s Breathe is an exercise in meditative tranquility.
The track starts as a heavily strumming guitar moves with undulating, gossamer synth while fragile notes hover and wind sweeps. The metallic guitar intertwines as the heavy bass moves with towering, digital-sounding notes. The broadly bursting drums support the guitar as it slips past with a melody full of thoughtful peace and smooth motion.
In the distance, a full-sounding synth swirls mistily and the drums add weight. The guitar sails through the music with a relaxed, meditative drift as the synth in the background oscillates and the bass rumbles. I enjoy the guitar’s ability to transport me outside of myself as the hypnotic percussion throbs.
The guitar glides with smooth, slightly pensive emotion as the skipping low end pulses. A sense of traveling through clouds, sailing above a landscape, is reflected in the soaring background and the shimmering guitar as the low end throbs. The guitar slides out in an easy-going, jazz-inflected line before silence falls.
