Synth Single Review: “Burning Man’’ by Donna Lewis & David Lowe
Donna Lewis & David Lowe’s Burning Man is a celebration of free-spirited exploration. The song starts as twisting, flaring synth oscillates while Donna Lewis’ whisper-soft voice drifts with the sonorous melody and the synth pulses continue to reverberate. David Lowe weaves a well-considered musical background beneath the song.
The heavily driving rhythm begins to dance while Donna Lewis’ gauzy vocals hover with delicate expression and the heavy bass rumbles. Her gliding voice is satiny, carrying me on its tender tide before the chorus erupts with boundless energy above the thundering underpinnings.
Chimes ring in the distance before a sparkling string section is punctuated by massive, explosive drums. As the cascading strings spin with dynamic action, Donna Lewis injects strength into her smooth vocals and the track flickers to an end.
As they follow lines on the same road, our narrator talks about seeing “dream catchers on the other side.” She can hear the chanting of a different kind “down in the valley where the darlings lie.”
As the lights of night illuminate, she asks, “Are you a dreamer or a do-er?” Once again, our narrator reiterates that they’re on the same road, following lines. She concludes by asking, “Are you a hard-line burner, naked in glitter?”
