Synth Single Review: “Candy Ice’’ by Autumn White
Autumn White’s Candy Ice explores a beautiful, lethal attraction. The song begins with surging percussion as Autumn White’s breathy, emotive voice rises in yearning. Razor-edged bass cuts through while blinding chimes shimmer, his vocals carrying both ache and desire. The way the melody fuses longing and loss strikes me deeply.
His voice grows more impassioned as sharp drums and heavy bass pulse, chimes scattering radiant light. The fractured percussion contrasts with his flowing delivery, emphasizing the tension between desire and unease in the lyrics. Bass detonates with crushing weight before the vocals bring the song to a close, steeped in ardor.
"Like a movie scene with all your favourite stars," is how the narrator describes the song's subject. He adds that they’re a beautiful liar, "breaking everyone's hearts." The other person appears each time he turns around and "it's more than I can bear."
The subject’s words are like "the sweetest lies" and the deep blue of their eyes. The storyteller compares them to "candy ice," the "sweetest way to die." He says they are "a frozen dream where the hero’s dressed to kill" and concludes, "You’re poison candy, I'm addicted to the thrill."
