Synth Single Review: “Cobra’’ by Max Cruise
Max Cruise’s Cobra evokes the drama of a powerful car rocketing down a midnight highway. The track opens as the hectically tumbling bass and colliding percussion join Max Cruise’s wildly snarling guitar while gossamer chimes sparkle. The chimes quickly flare as a guitar ripples with fierce muscle and broad notes erupt into pounding motion.
Gliding synth slips above the rhythm as the mysterious guitar melody unwinds, evoking the feeling of slipping down a midnight highway. Freedom permeates the lush guitar before Max Cruise’s sax solo cries out with animated vigour. The guitar slices in clean lines, calling to mind a twisting road unfurling at speed. I can imagine a sleek Shelby Cobra slipping down a sinuous asphalt ribbon as the track evolves.
The beat is compelling as the guitar exudes intense expression, crying out with spirited power. Once again, the saxophone flies, spinning out a melodic line that erupts with focused complexity and unbridled dynamism. The low end throbs while Max Cruise’s jazzy saxophone adds freewheeling liveliness and chimes flicker. The drums collide with the colossal bass and the guitar conjures feelings of open-road driving before the track ends on a patterned flourish and huge bass.
