Synth Single Review: “Ebb & Flow’’ by LightSource & The Bad Dreamers
LightSource & The Bad Dreamers’ Ebb & Flow is an expression of lasting and fulfilling love. The song begins as a strongly hitting drum beat and clapping percussion create energizing motion. Hollow notes join together into a quickly flying melody as the underpinning sounds pulse. A sharp-edged but soothing synth twirls in the distance while the underlying weight moves forward.
David Schuler’s softly floating vocals express affectionate interest while the bass undulates and a synth shines like the sun glowing on azure water. The vocals capture all of the love and attention within the lyrics, charming me as they do so. Uplifting notes ascend broadly while the glistening synth flickers like motes of light on the water.
David Schuler powers the vocals forward with an intensity of feeling that drives their meaning home. The active beat propels the rhythmic pulse while the vocals climb like birds soaring above the sea. A delicate synth exudes fragility and tenderness while the drum beat presses on. Piano-like notes sing with encouragement as the widely bursting rhythm comes to an end, along with the chorus leaping like the crest of a wave.
As he’s “standing on the shoreline, where the ocean meets the sky,” the narrator finds it hard to tell the difference between the song subject’s eyes and the ocean. He adds, “We’ve come so far together, right where we’re meant to be, and I’ll fight for you forever, if you’re down to fight for me.”
“Through the highs and lows, through the ebb and the flow,” our storyteller declares that he will stand beside the song’s subject and stay there with them. He continues, “I loved you in a past life and I’ll love you in the next,” before concluding that while he might not always do the right thing, he’ll always do his best.
