Synth Single Review: “Everything I Want’’ by EhRah & LAU
EhRah & LAU’s Everything I Want explores love and loss in a deep relationship. Broad chimes ring out and a melody that is both dreamy and hurt calls out on refulgent synth before LAU’s voice comes in with intense expression.
The drums and bass have a rich depth as trickling, digital-sounding notes ripple past. LAU’s voice Is full of her signature emotional power as it echoes out and the driving low end presses forward. The vocals carry a melody that throbs with yearning.
A shining synth carries a heartwarming melody and delicately arpeggiating notes flicker. LAU skillfully captures all of the pained feeling and gentleness in the lyrics. A glistening synth unfolds, carrying the lead melody as EhRah’s production deepens the song's emotions.
Now widely sweeping notes flow past as the drums and bass drop away for a moment. The chorus flies out again with LAU in full flow, her voice warm and enfolding. The song ends on a guitar-like synth unfurling with an energetic melodic pattern before the song fades into silence.
The storyteller asks the song's subject to hold her closer so she can look into their eyes because “this might be the last time.” She goes on to say that the sky is falling and the stars are crying but she can live for eternity in the other person's heart.
Our narrator goes on to say that the other person will always be the love of her life and every day she hopes for the chance to see them smile. She wonders how she'll ever be able to forget the memories they shared because the song subject is “the one and only” and everything she wants.
The storyteller says that it's difficult to simply start another life without the other person beside her. She adds that what they shared doesn't truly die and “you can live forever in my heart. "
Now the narrator speaks of them each taking different paths as she stands there wondering why the time has come for them to say goodbye. she concludes “we did cry, we did laugh.”
