Synth Single Review: “Good Bait Wiggles’’ by Splash '96
Splash '96’s Good Bait Wiggles is a study in groove and irresistible motion. Funky slap bass sits in the pocket along with smoothly pulsing drums to open the track. There's a wriggling quality to the bass as the drums rebound. Glowing guitar entangles, carrying a beguiling melody that turns into a hypnotic lick as it interacts with the solidly throbbing drums and bass.
I find it impossible not to move when I'm listening to this music. The fatness of the bass adds a pure, funky groove as the guitar strums. The main melody has a swinging, hip shaking feeling to it as it unwinds on the glistening, luscious guitar.
Rounded, nasal-sounding synth descends in writhing lines before carrying a melody with a haunting, minor key quality to it supported by the endlessly gyrating low end. The guitar sings out with a trance inducing, exotic sounding melody while the dense, unctuous slap bass carries the song to an end.
