Synth Single Review: “Hopeless Emotions’’ by Sunset Wave
Sunset Wave’s Hopeless Emotions is a dreamy exploration of lost affection and longing. The song starts with resonant electric piano and flickering synth before Michelle Schwarzbach's whisper-soft voice carries the fragile melody as it sails past. The drums are gently guiding as trickling notes flow into a warming melody that swells with pain tinged by softness.
The bass continues to shape the track while Michelle Schwarzbach's hushed tones are full of love and loss and the main melody carries out with Samuel Lee Rönkä’s gossamer web of aching feeling. The beat continues to throb for a moment before a softly wandering note pattern grows in strength, still expressing longing and need. The lead synth has clean tones as Michelle Schwarzbach expresses the song's message with a touching immediacy that grabs hold of me before the track ends.
In a “ride to the mind like my different emotions,” our storyteller sought a path that wasn’t really there. She found “the colours of the truth and the ocean” as she became lost in the clouds “like my hopeless emotions.” When she’s with the song’s subject, our storyteller sees “coloured lights in the skies” and wants to go out for a ride at night with the other person by her side.
