Synth Single Review: “Illusion of Flight’’ by Fury Weekend & Kirill Babiev
Fury Weekend & Kirill Babiev’s Illusion of Flight explores ideas of escape and freedom as it evolves. The song starts out with an oscillating, haunting synth pattern as an elevated, howling sound cries out. The drums batter along with intimidating bass to create propulsive low end motion. Kirill Babiev’s voice has a resonant, emotional quality as the heavy drums pulse and punch.
Percussion flourishes and the driving low end throbs forward as a sharp synth cuts through the background. Kirill Babiev fills his voice with intensity, well the hard-hitting drums punch forward. A luminous synth with cutting edges trips through the background while the vocals ring out with expressive strength. A guitar slashes in now, adding ferocity as the vocals leap out above it.
The gigantic, slicing synth towers as the drums thunder. The song exudes powerful energy as Kirill Babiev’s voice lifts above it. A guitar solo pours heartfelt emotion, crying out with a tearing feeling. The song ends as the emotive chorus calls out passionately.
The storyteller begins by saying that in the depths of his despair there's a "little glimpse of fading light" in the air. He says that in the "maze of broken dreams" nothing's quite the way it seems as he searches for something that isn't there.
The narrator says that things seem so far away as he's "caught in the night's embrace " while craving for more, he's losing his sight. All of the shadows that he pursues are drowning "in a purple haze." He wants a spark to ignite everything.
Our storyteller wants to avoid a world of endless grey but is lost in the night's darkness. He's looking for a way to reach for another day but finds himself still "struggling with illusions of the flight." He speaks of a place of "vivid fears" and wonders if it's a nightmare or just dreams as his mind plays tricks on him.
The narrator says that he's "trapped in a world of lies" without the ability to compromise his will “to break free from the chains." All he can find are vacant hallways with "spirits on the walls" that are trying to seize the unknown.
Reality is being smashed as the narrator escapes gravity. He adds that one should not "let the dark will hold you down.” He speaks about how we are all spiralling further into a trance without the chance for a fresh escape.
Our storyteller says he'll be waiting when "it all fades away" he isn't sure how long it will take but asks to be given "the sign for the break."
