Synth Single Review: “Knights Of Cydonia’’ covered by Chroma Cloud
Chroma Cloud's cover of Muse’s Knights Of Cydonia carries the original song’s powerful message in a fresh way. The song begins with the guitar scrolling as Brian Skeel cries out in his inimitable voice. The drums are colossal and battering, raging as the music expands. Now the pounding beat moves with ferocious energy as the melody retains the same sense of a sweeping adventure as the original.
Brian Skeel’s guitar shines intensely as a spinning arpeggio shimmers. Like the original, there is weighty drama, but a more technical edge is added here. Brian Skeel delivers the lyrics with conviction and Jamie Ravine adds her own powerfully emotive vocals. A radiant synth twirls as the dominating low end batters and the huge guitar snarls with intimidating strength. I enjoy the intense storytelling and theatricality in the music.
Now the choir lets loose as bubbling synth wriggles, the huge chorus delivers the song's message and the gigantic, hypnotic drum beat continues to throb. The percussion’s martial feeling fits the words as the guitar adds smashing, raging weight. The entire track explodes with dynamic muscle, slashing and lacerating, as the drums hit hard and the bass growls. As the track comes to an end, the nobility of the synth is joined by the ferocity of the guitar.
The narrator takes us on a journey through history’s flaws and failures. The song serves as a reminder that time is short and we’ve got to take action. The song speaks of resistance and survival, encouraging us to stand up for our rights and refuse to be silenced.
