Synth Single Review: “L.A. Chillin'’’ by Mellow Fields
Mellow Fields’ L.A. Chillin’ evokes a laidback night in the City of Angels. The song starts with an active rhythm that swells while mellow tones ring out with luxuriant tenderness. As the beat pulses with unique percussion and the bass adds a swinging throb, warm chords climb with diffuse light. A synth undulates while the chords swirl and frolic. Whispering notes suffuse the music like the pink sky above a city at night while the percussive underpinnings add shape.
The melody glitters, evoking skyscrapers lit up with a thousand tiny lights. The percussion drops away as tranquility flows from a slowly gliding synth while the bass thrums like midnight traffic. The track crescendos as the drums fall away and flickering lights fly past, like a thousand streetlights blurring. I enjoy the piano melody’s thoughtful air, reminding me of looking out at the skyline, illuminated by moonlight. Sparkling notes flash like the occasional star seen on the edge of a glowing metropolis.
