Synth Single Review: “Night and Day’’ by Beckett and HeartBeatHero
Beckett and HeartBeatHero’s Night and Day speaks of desire and obsession. The song commences with a soulful, rich vocal medley as the undulating bass supports flickering chimes. After a drum cascade, the shimmying beat makes me groove while incandescent sounds fall.
Beckett’s spoken-word part has a syncopated pattern. As he sings, his velvety voice caresses my ears with the fluently unfolding melody. Glowing figures move with the speeding low end while Beckett’s creamy vocals wash over me. Once again, chanted words echo above surging weight while the piano trickles effortlessly and fragile notes spiral outward.
Now the dark, low end vocals add luscious shadows while the warm chorus shines above the rapid snare drum. The hypnotic, chanted chorus glides with unctuous ease as the repeated word patterns add an intriguing quality before the song ends.
The song’s subject has the main character running to her. The narrator says she’s “running day and night.” She has the main character’s number and she took his “wicked game to heart.” As the main character tries to keep his secret hidden, “she’ll keep you running every day, every night.”
Our primary character has a secret the song’s subject seems to know. The storyteller warns, “You never called her, you wish you’d known, because now she’s a ghost in your dreams and craves your time.” He adds, “Your endless secret, your burning lies, should have stopped.”
