Synth Single Review: “Nothing Even Matters Anymore ’’ by Lovespirals
Lovespirals’ Nothing Even Matters Anymore exudes exhaustion and emptiness. The song comes to life as a trembling electric piano moves with a strumming guitar. Anji B’s whisper-soft tones float through the background. The guitar chords are resonant with sorrow and light as the jazzy richness of Anji B’s tone carries the existential struggle of the lyrics while the low end steadily brushes.
The electric piano gives the music a trembling quality while Anji B expresses the lyrics with vulnerability and the guitar drifts slowly. The rhythm has a slow roll and the vocals slip with a pained feeling as the pulsing beat adds gentle shape. Ryan Lum’s solo is sobbing and full of desolation, floating with lost energy before silence falls.
Nothing matters anymore to our narrator. All she wants to do is “shut the windows, lock the door” because she is exhausted and bored by everything. She doesn’t want to “settle up the score because it hurt me down to my core.”
“Somehow yesterday became today, today becomes tomorrow” for the narrator, and as the night blurs into the day, she feels “no joy but no real sorrow.”
