Synth Single Review: “Ocean Beach’’ by Revert Disk & Kalo
Revert Disk & Kalo’s Ocean Beach harks back to wild days in Vice City. The track opens as tropical waves wash and a siren screams, police radio calling out. Now the low end punches in vibrating lines as the drums flourish and the Latin percussion joins with undulating chords that radiate sunlight and warmth.
The beat is groovy and irresistible as the glimmering chords spill brightness. Vocal samples tell the story of a criminal organization while the synth chords contrast with coruscating light. The low end continues to punch as the active percussion adds a hollow throb and flaring light pours through the music.
The tropical percussion adds a Caribbean flair before Kalo’s guitar slices with jagged edges, propelling the music with ferocious speed and dynamism. The open-voiced percussion pops as the guitar snarls and dances above the hard-punching low end. Kalo's guitar solo is intricate and full of wildness, unfurling in madly intertwining lines. Underneath it all, the groove is unstoppable, before silence falls.
