Synth Single Review: “京都 (On Lazerdisc)’’ by Gridluster & Nightflyer
Gridluster & Nightflyer‘s 京都 (On Lazerdisc) combines soothing sounds with powerful drums and bass. The song starts as hissing tape static moves along with a muffled but steady drum beat. The sound becomes clearer as the song moves along with razor-edged base and glittering, delicately rebounding synth notes.
The drums throb as twisting, entangling synth floats and panpipes add an airy breath of calming sound. The drums and bass have weight and depth as they shape the music while a broadly trumpeting, dancing synth flashes through the music. Tranquil notes drift through the music above the punching low end. I enjoy the washing synth’s calming nature in contrast to the low end’s solidity.
The track slips into a relaxing flow as radiant notes tremble in and smoothly descending sounds trickle past. The drums are more easy going now as they tap before they return with muscled weight along with luscious bass to support the higher notes that glow and sing. Diamantine light radiates from the music above the steadily shaping low end. The song ends on a tidal bass wash before silence falls.
