Synth Single Review: “Outland’’ by Cassetter & Atmolifter
Cassetter & Atmolifter’s Outland draws images of a sweeping planetary landscape. The track begins with a smoothly gliding melody which has sharp edges but exudes hurt and wandering emotion. The keyboard flickers with lost light as the sweeping background swirls. The rhythm is insistent and darkly tinged while trumpeting notes cry out with roaming sensations, touched by melancholy. I am drawn to the imagery of stunning planetary vistas and the longing within the melodic synth pattern.
Arpeggios twirl with tense energy as the bass snarls with threat. A mystical sound trails through the music, detached and floating, while the arpeggiating pattern breaks down into an uncomfortable sound. Brighter synth notes pulse before the tempo changes, the drum beat clean and the bass heavy, while shimmering sounds dance and intermingle.
The rhythm is full of pressing power while the string-like notes flash and call out with a vision of a vast, empty world. The delicate notes that slip past are carried on a hazy synth while rounded sounds rebound in the distance. Elevated tones flow with a ghostly, desolate quality while the reverberating low end fades. The raised notes are bright-edged and haunting as they vanish.
