Synth Single Review: “Symphony of Rain’’ by Dress To Impress
Dress To Impress’ Symphony of Rain carries a message of hope, despite life’s difficult moments. The song begins as resonant xylophone trembles and finger snaps add percussion above a smoothly swirling background. The drum beat is gliding and the glistening xylophone calls out with tenderness. The robotized vocals add a haunting sensation while the rhythm bursts in slow pulses. While I find the artwork fitting, I'd love to see an artist's talents employed.
As the echoing, computerized vocals cry out, they capture all of the song’s emotion as the percussion pulses. The lead singer’s voice is strong and full of honest expression while the shining notes exude hope and the rain pours in the distance. The guitar swirls in lost motion as the computerized vocals shift once more. The drums continue to pound, the swell of the low end adding weight. I enjoy the atmosphere of the song, capturing the sensations within the lyrics.
The guitar calls out, cutting with gruff but expressive emotion while the pulsating beat drives on. Ardent expression fills the lead singer’s vocals as the heaving drums press forward. A chanted segment has a unique quality that adds poetic sensations while the guitar unwinds with luminous power, crying out and filling the music with a sense of free-flowing motion before the song ends on soaring vocals.
As our narrator stares out of a window in the corner, he sees raindrops like “tears of heaven, profound, never ending.” Each of those raindrops transmits transcending tales that are “empty and broken with lies.” They are limned by the luminosity of “the virtual light” as they seek truth while being “lost in the fight.” He points out that the delineations between reality are dreams.
Just like shards of glass laying on the floor, the storyteller talks about turning “around, up and down” as he picks up the pieces, looking for more. It’s a “melody of pain in this symphony of rain.” Memories cascade, turned topsy-turvy like “photos filling the albums in our back room,” as they ache for one’s affection “empty and saddened with cries.”
The rain passes and “the symphony draws to an end” with water’s healing touch, “a message to transcend.” Every raindrop that falls causes sorrow to unfurl with “whispers of the past, a bittersweet tableau” as memories cling on and persist. The symphony of rain is a “requiem I’ve missed,” and even though he’s lost a great deal, the rain “whispers of hope.” As the song ends, he says, “in the symphony of rain, I find the strength to cope.”
