Top 5 Canadian Female Singers
We have a lot of talent in Canada, but sometimes we don't realize how much! I decided to make a list of the top 5 Canadian female singers Here is a list of my favorite female singers. I have all the CDs (yes I still own Cds) and I really love them! I figured I would share my love of these great female singers that have been around for a while and that have really left their mark on the music world and our lives. Hope you enjoy it!
Number 5: Alanis Morissette
For all those who remember the late 90's she was the best! Her angry lyrics about relationships gone bad were amazing. People everywhere were singing "You Oughtta Know" after going through bad break-ups.
Born in Ottawa in 1974, Alanis started out in the early 90's singing pop songs. She was known as Alanis. Then in the late 90's she reinvented herself and started singing angry songs. Her "Jagged Little Pill" album sold millions.
Number 4: Avril Lavigne
Avril's songs like "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi" was sung by all teenagers girl with such feeling! She was a teen that did not have to get half naked to have a fan base and didn't have to look like a barbie doll to have people watch er videos. I remember I thought her early videos were so cute with her skater style.
Avril was born in 1984 in Belleville Ontario. Her name Avril is French for April (her French-Canadian Father chose her name)|. She is a middle child. She has an older brother and a younger sister.
Avril married in 2006 and divorced in 2009. She married Deryck Whibley the lead singer of Sum 41 .
Number 3: Nelly Furtado
Her "I'm Like a Bird" song was ung by almost everyone! Even if you didn't want to know the lyrics you had to it was on the radio so much!
I like the Loose album more than her earlier music. Her song Promiscuous and all the other ones with Timbaland's influence is more my style of music.
Born in British Coloumbia in 1978, her career started in 2000 with her "I'm Like A Bird" song. In 2003 she had a daughter named Nevis.
She is beautiful and talented. A real Canadian:)
Number 2: Chantal Kreviazuk
She is my personal favorite. Her "Under These Rocks and Stones" album was and still is amazing! Her voice is so sweet and beautiful. She also sang the song for the Armageddon movie "Leaving on a Jet Plane"
She plays the piano beautifully and when she sings with just her piano playing live it is AMAZING!
She is married to Raine Maida lead singer of Our Lady Peace. She has 3 sons and has a home both in the USA and Toronto
Number 1: Celine Dion
You either love her or hate her, but you can not deny her amazing voice and her popularity. I enjoy watching her on Oprah and heaing her little French accent and her down to earth personality.
Born in Quebec, she was the last of 14 (yes 14) children. She started singing at the age of 12. When she married her manager Rene Angelil (who was 26 years her senior) people freaked out. They are still together and have 1 son and are expectiong twins.
Everybody knows her 1997 hit "My Heart Will Go On" even if you don't want to:)
Her shows in Vegas (2007-2009) were always sold out.
I find her songs catchy and smooth. Many people find her a little annoying, but I think she is quirky and very talented.
