Top Picks on 2010 Movies

By: Yollie and Dan Bunag

Whereas 2009 was a great year for movies and Hollywood, in our opinion, 2010 wasn't as great year in terms of blockbuster movies and quality selection. However, there are some movies and DVDs worth watching, a few of them are excellent animation. This hub is a list of DVD/movie and streaming services recommendations that hopefully you might enjoy.

Inception

You would either like or hate this movie, that is whether or not you get the story/plot. A sci-fi thriller involving dreams or dream within a dream.

Inception

Legend of the Guardians:

The Owls of Ga'hoole

Young owl Soren marvels at his father's epic stories of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole, mythic winged warriors who fought a great battle to save all owl kind from the evil Pure Ones. When he and brother Kludd fall from their treetop home and into the talons of the Pure Ones, it's up to Soren to make a daring escape with the help of other brave owls. Together they seek the Great Tree, home of the Guardians--the only hope of defeating the Pure Ones and saving the owl kingdoms.

How to Train Your Dragon

Excellent story line, we didn't get bored watching this movie. It's also visually appealing. There were several funny instances for the young Viking lead and his dragon.

Secretariat

If you love Seabiscuit, you'll probably love Secretariat.

For behind every legend, there lies an impossible dream. What does it take to reach that impossible dream? Prepare tow witness the spectacular journey of an incredible horse named Secretariat and the moving story of his unlikely owner, a housewife who risked everything to make him a champion. The DVD has never-before-seen bonus features. Secretariat is hours full of pulse-pounding entertainment for the whole family.

Red

Frank (Bruce Willis) is a former black-ops CIA agent living a quiet life alone... well at least until the day that a hit squad shows up trying to kill him. With his identity compromised, Frank reassembles his old team Joe (Morgan Freeman), Marvin (John Malkovich) and Victoria (Helen Mirren) and sets out to prove that they still have a few tricks up their sleeves. Stand back and watch the bullets fly in this explosive action-comedy that critics call a "rip-roaring good time."

RED

True Grit

True Grit is a powerful story of vengeance and valor set in an unforgiving and unpredictable frontier where justice is simple and mercy is rare. Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld), is determined to avenge her father's blood by capturing Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), the man who shot and killed him for two pieces of gold. Just fourteen, she enlists the help of Rooster Cogburn (Academy Award Winner Jeff Bridges), a one-eyed, trigger-happy U.S. Marshall with an affinity for drinking and a hardened Texas Ranger LaBoeuf (Academy Award Winner Matt Damon) to track the fleeing Tom Chaney. Despite their differences, their ruthless determination leads them on a perilous adventure that can only have one outcome: retribution beyond all means.

True Grit

My Name is Khan

A deeply moving Hindi movie, but with an American twist. Rizwan Khan (Shahrukh Khan), a Muslim man with Asperger syndrome, was living a happy existence with his wife, Mandira (Kajol), in San Francisco until an unfortunate tragedy drives her away from him after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He set out on a quest to meet the President traveling all over the states until he came upon a boy and his mother and the town of Wilhelmina, Georgia. Find out how love and peace overcame hatred and anger in this Bollywood masterpiece. This is not your typical Bollywood films--the ones with lots of singing and dancing. This one has a moving story, a moral take-away, but ultimately a happy ending. We really like it!
