Where Are They? Now: Jenna Von Oy From Blossom and The Parkers
Voy Oy was a child actress
"Don't know about the future, that's anybody's guess. That ain't no reason for getting all depressed".
These are the opening lines to the catchy theme song for the NBC hit Blossom, which remain in the minds of many who watched the series. Joey Lawrence (Joey Russo) danced with two young ladies on each side, Jenna von Oy (Six Lemure) and Mayim Bialik (Blossom Russo). Von Oy has grown up before our eyes from a child star to an adult actress. There is no news about her encountering the troubles that many of today's child stars face. Six was the speed-talking best friend of the title character in Blossom, which ran from 1990 to 1995. She said her dad gave her the name because that's how many years it took for her to be born.
From commercials to successful television series
Von Oy was born to Frank and Gloria von Oy on May 2, 1977, in Danbury, Connecticut. She began acting on stage and in commercials at a young age, making her television debut at the age of nine in an episode of ABC's Weekend Special in 1986. Guest roles followed on Tales from the Darkside and Kate and Allie followed. In 1989, she appeared in the film Born on the Fourth of July. From 1990 to 1991, she co-starred in the CBS series Lenny. In 1993, the actress portrayed herself in Saved By the Bell: The College Years.
Von Oy had other roles
The actress appeared in the television movies "She Cried No" and "Dying to Belong" in 1996. She also appeared on Martin, Unhappily Ever After, and Chicago Hope in 1997. After Blossom ended, Von Oy attended film school at the University of Southern California, where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority for two years. She dropped out of school in 1999 to pursue acting and began playing the role of Stevie Van Lowe, the best friend of Kim Parker (Countess Vaughn), on The Parkers, until 2004.
From Jennifer to Jenna
Von Oy's characters, Six and Stevie, were sidekicks to Blossom and Kim, but she held her own and was quite funny. She even did her fast-talking in a few episodes of The Parkers. She shared the following.
I was born with the name Jennifer. However, when I was 2 years old, my guardian angel (no joke!) came to me in a dream and told me her name was Jenna (I'd never heard the name before.) She said my name was supposed to be Jenna also. After that, I refused to answer to the name Jennifer anymore. No one has called me Jennifer since then. I legally changed my name a few years later (by then even my parents were convinced it was meant to be!) As for my middle name, it's Jean. Thus my full name is Jenna Jean von Oy.
Voice artist, Country singer and therapy
Jenna is good friends with Melissa 0oan Hart who was first offered the role of Six LeMeure. She turned it down to star in Clarissa Explains It All (1991) and von Oÿ got the part. Jenna von Oy is also a voice artist. During her run on The Parkers, she was the voice actor for Trinket St. Blaire in the animated series Pepper Ann. She was also the voice of Stacy in A Goofy Movie and voiced a coed in An Extremely Goofy Movie. She was also the voice of Gracie in Dr. Doolittle 3 in 2006. She released her debut Country album, Breathing Room, in September 2008. She has shared that she dealt with depression after the success of Blossom and The Parkers, and wondered who she was without the shows to work on. She says therapy helped her to adjust to the highs and lows.
Where is Von Oy today?
In October 2010, Jenna von Oy married computer-data consultant Brad Bratcher in Newton, Ohio, and they had two daughters. One was born in 2012, and the other in 2014, but the couple has since divorced. The couple has two daughters, born in 2012 and 2014. Theri names are Marlow and Gray Bratcher. She was on Battle of the Network Stars in 2017 and portrayed herself in Call Me Kat in 2022, her last credited role. Jenna won two awards for her role in Blossom: The Young Artist Award in 1993 for Best Young Actress Co-starring in a Television Series. In 1994, she won for Best Youth Comedian. Von Oy revealed in 2023 that she was a lesbian. During an interview, she said that everyone should view success through their own lens, rather than through the expectations of others. As a side note she admitted to having a huge crush on Joey Lawrence as did many young girls who watched Blossom.
