Honey Boo Boo Child: Is this for real?

Updated on August 8, 2012

Alana & her Mom

Go Go Juice or Go Go to the ER

In the United States, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Department for Children And Families (DCF) define child maltreatment as any act or series of acts of commission or omission by a parent or other caregiver that results in harm, potential for harm, or threat of harm to a child.

Ok, so I was watching TLC, with my mom and there was a mother that had us both in shock and disbelief. She gave her daughter a mixture of Red Bull and Mountain Dew. Yes, you heard me correct! She calls it Go-go Juice. She compares it to the pixie stick that other Mom's give their daughters to keep them energized while they are in the pageant. Do not get me wrong I do not condone what the Mom's are doing in the least bit, however, there is no comparison. A little sugar from a stick versus an energy drink mixed with soda.

One could surmise that she is setting this child up for some serious health issues, it has been proven in a study that heightened Red Bull use can cause trauma to the heart and brain. It clearly states that it should be used in conjunction with seriously high leveled sports or recreation. Maybe I am wrong, but you don't break a sweat during a patient. That there is no intense workout or physical movement, maybe there is? For me, the perspiration you acquire from a dance routine or prancing about a stage does not require any stamina.

How does T.L.C reward this obvious bad parenting, they give the little girl and her family a television show? I guess maybe we can see her go into full cardiac arrest, right? I remember seeing the little girl and her mother appear on several shows, where her mother defended and justified her use of this go-go juice. Dr. Drew even had the pair on his show, in no way am I holding this poor little child responsible for her mother's non-judgment she is the victim. So, Dr. Drew tries the go-go juice and he visibly has the affects of fatigue, dry mouth, panting a bit. The little girl innocently tells him, "Get ready to be bouncing off the walls!"

To my horror, the mother smiled and the audience laughed at the little girl's comment. I thought to myself, what if she gets going and can't stop. Why is this mother not held responsible for her obvious bad parents. She does not display one ounce of remorse, but of course why would she, she is being rewarded for it ."RED BULL was created to stimulate the brains in people who are subjected to great physical force and in "stress coma" and never to be consumed like an innocent drink or soda pop."

So, I'm reading how it can cause liver damage, brain damage, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, thinking is this all worth it? These affects are for those engaging in athletic movement, which the can suggests that you be engaged in. It is not meant for leisure. It is my opinion that if a parent is reprimanded by Benadryl usage on their children, which can be seen as abuse, why is this not abuse, too?!

I want to bring your attention to one particular ingredient that you can see on the blown up can it is called, "GLUCURONOLACTONE." Google it and its harmful affects. Apparently it was given by the United States Department of Defense to stimulate the moral of the troops based in VIETNAM, which acted like a hallucinogenic drug that calmed the stress of the war.
The effects in the organism were so devastating, that it was discontinued, because of the high index of cases of migraines, cerebral tumors and diseases of the liver that was evident in the soldiers who consumed it. Yet this is what Mom gives her baby for none of those reasons.

You have countries such as France, Denmark, Turkey, Uruguay, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, that band their use on children under 15. Studies have found the adverse effects to be liver damage, kidney failure, respiratory disorders, hypertension, heart issues, and fatalities. Twenty-five percent of caffeine overdoes have been for children under the age of 6 in the United States.

I think that this mother has to have a better distinguishing eye for what sales on tv, which is just about anything and the affects it has her daughter. As a parent we are to protect our children. For me, this is exploitation in such a dangerous way. If you want to make money by doing a television show, by all means go ahead, but do not allow your daughter to be affected for life, by you putting her health and well being in harms way for a few commercial laughs and to win a pageant.

Patients and ratings come and go, but your child, your job as her mother is for ever. You are supposed to guide and nurture your daughter, not hop her up on something to suit your purpose. Yeah she may go-go on go-go juice, but what are you really doing to her. You know she is not doing anything physical, yet you give her an energy drink mixed with soda. You compare it to giving pixie sticks. I have provided the ingredients to the candy, so we can all see just how ridiculous it is.

Do I think Go-go Mom should go to jail, if she does not understand what she is doing no, but if she is explained the affects and continues to move forward with her go-go juice. Then, I feel she has no respect for the best interest of her child and she should spend some time behind bars it might go-go her back to reality and responsibility. Tell me what you think?
