How to be a Good Example for Children? It All Starts With You!!!!
You don't have to be perfect to be a good example for children; just don't be afraid to admit to your mistakes, what you did wrong, why you acted that way, and what you will do next time.
Teach your children respect and to treat others the way they want to be treated. Model respectful, appropriate behavior, and know that children are like sponges and want to act like you, and admire you whether you are a sibling, grandparent, aunt, uncle, friend, parent, caregiver, or teacher.
It's hard to break bad habits once they are started, so the concept of "ignoring it and it will go away...." doesn't always work. Don't be afraid to explain other childrens' behaviors and why it is not appropriate in public. You may not be able to control others' peoples' children, but you can certainly teach your child by example.
When I was younger, my mother always told me to never make promises you can't keep. She always kept her word, so I take those words to heart. I've never made a promise that I couldn't keep and I want my child to know the importance of making promises and the true value of words.
Know that being a parent/ positive role model is the most important job in the world. Sometimes the stress can be unbearable, but you have the ability to build up your child or bring them down with you. Your job is a lot more important than you get credit for, but the good examples you start today can last a lifetime!
