My Missing Valentine

When I was in my late teens, my father started a tradition of sending flowers not only to his wife, but to his two daughters as well. That tradition continued till his death, with the exception of when I was married – he figured it was then my husband’s purview. Unfortunately my husband didn’t like to give flowers when they were “required.”

After the divorce, Dad restarted the practice of sending me flowers on Valentine’s Day. It was his way of reminding me that I am still loved, and will always have my first sweetheart. Each year since his death in 1992, I miss my Valentine.

That is the kind of thing my husband does for our only daughter who is divorced. It is important for her to know, no matter what, she is loved. I can tell, even with your Dad gone, you know that too.

Thank your husband for me -- it's hard to believe you're loveable after a divorce. What he's doing for your daughter means a lot more than he realizes.
