Pregnant and single
Single, pregnant, and scared
What to do now?
Ok, so you're single, pregnant, and scared, what happens next? There are several things you need to do and you need to do them soon. One is to see a doctor. Work out a payment plan if you
don't have insurance, but see a doctor. This will help your pregnancy go smoothly and your baby to be healthy. Find someone who can go along with you; your mom, a close friend, someone who can help you when you don't understand what is happening to your body. Someone you trust, who can take notes for you, who will be a sounding board if you have questions.
If you don't take care of your health, your baby has even less of a chance to be healthy. If you smoke, stop. DON'T drink. I don't care what your friends say. It will affect your baby and they won't be around when you have to deal with those problems.
Still talking to the baby's dad? Ask him how much he is going to help you with expenses. Find out if he has insurance that will cover you. Find out what your parents are willing to help with. It
won't be everything. They raised you. You might even have siblings they are still raising. Assess your resources then look for where you can get help. Crisis pregnancy centers are there to give assistance, use them. Don't be afraid, they are not going to judge you.
Tell your parents. They may be disappointed, but they are still your parents. They will still love you. Be sure that your boyfriend tells his parents. This will be their grandchild too. They may or may not like you but that it their problem.
Know that your emotions will be on a rollercoaster. One minute you will laugh and one minute you will cry. Look at all your options to make the best decision for you and your baby. Don’t panic. You will get through this. Take it one day at a time.
