Standing on my soapbox - Common sense

Updated on May 13, 2011

Taking my stance on things

*Climbs on Soapbox*  (For those of you who don‘t understand what this means, it means I have something that needs to get off my chest, standing on a soapbox makes me taller so you all can see me from the crowd)

Your Attention Please!

“Can I please have your attention? There are a few things on my mind that I just feel the need to get out in the open, just need to get some things off my chest. Common sense people, where has it gone? Didn’t your Momma ever teach you that if you touch something hot you will get burned? I'm sure over the years she gave you good advice and all the cool sayings that came with it. Didn't any of it stick?

Basics

Let’s start with a few basics. When you vote for more Government, you get it! Everyone knows that Democrats are for big Government, Republicans are for less. I’m not saying what I am either way, but you have to be careful what you ask for, you just might get it! When they stick their noses in your business, tell you what to do, remember if you voted that way, you asked for it! Quit yer bitchin'.

Your Body, YOUR health

When you eat bad foods, your body is going to hate you! In the process of hating you, it’s going to gain weight, lose muscle, cause diseases etc... Don’t blame the soda pop companies when you become diabetic, it’s your own fault for guzzling a 12 pack of Mountain Dew a day for years! The same goes for all those high sugar energy drinks. Just because it tastes good doesn’t always mean it’s good for you. When you stop at McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy’s or any other fast food place 10 times a week, it’s going to take it’s toll on your body! Just because it’s there, doesn’t mean you have to stop and eat!

Eating 50 pounds of food at any given time is going to make you FAT! Eating a chocolate bar a day is going to make you FAT. Drinking a caramel mocha macchiato every day is going to make you FAT. Just because you can afford it, want it or it’s there doesn’t mean you should do it. Moderation people!! Have you ever heard of that? It means ‘once in a while’. NOT EVERY DAY!!

Children

When you have a child and park it in front of the TV, in it’s room or any other place AWAY from you, bad things ARE going to happen! It’s a given. You had it, TAKE CARE OF IT!!! Studies have shown that a who is child reared with Love, discipline and some sort of structure will grow into a decent adult who is responsible for their own actions. Those who are left to their own defenses and are cast aside will more than likely grow up to be criminals or dead. So when you visit your child in prison, or it’s grave don’t say you weren’t’ warned, and quit saying “How could this have happened?”

When you drink or do drugs, your child will emulate you. It’s a given, even if it’s just a temporary use, the child WILL use drugs or drink. If you think that hiding in your bedroom and firing up that fatty is really hiding… THINK AGAIN!! Your kids know. Don’t believe me? Ask them!

Just because you’re in your 30’s and you think that life is passing you by because you spent your 20’s raising kids, let me tell you. A child who is 10 or 12 is NOT raised! They have a lot more years to go before you can say ‘I’ve raised my kids’. So that Friday night and Saturday night partying you’ve been doing really should stop. Just because they’re old enough to go to the cupboard and get a box of crackers/cookies/chips does not mean they can feed themselves.

Just because you’ve worked all week and slaved at the office or whatever job you may have, doesn’t mean that Friday or Saturday night is time for partying! You think you’re deserving of this? Your kids have waited all week for you to come home, have the weekend off and spend it with them. They didn’t wait all week to spend it with a babysitter or in front of the TV scared to death because it’s dark outside, or the noises that frighten them.

So you went 9 months without partying? Your baby is here, 2 weeks old and you want a little action? So what! You really think you did something by giving birth? Now comes the hard part! Stay home, take care of that child! You had it, take responsibility!

When you leave your child with a babysitter you are taking chances with their lives. If you don’t believe me, watch the horror stories on TV regarding the videos parents have gotten from nanny cams. Is that ‘cheap’ sitter really worth the life of your child? If you have leave your child with a sitter, references are a MUST.

Pets

So you got yourself a cute little puppy.  Didn’t ANYONE tell you they grow up?  In the process they get into stuff, tear your good shoes up, eat those underwear you left lying around.  Pee on everything!  Poop in your favorite shoes.  Whatever, this is what dogs do.  When dogs hit between 4 and 7 months old their bladders are still small but their pee develops faster.  So accidents WILL happen.  It doesn’t matter if you thought they were potty trained, accidents happen.  Tough it out!  You got the pet, TAKE CARE OF IT!!  Don‘t dispose of it because you got mad at it, because you left it alone for hours on end and it crapped all over your bed.  Plan ahead, get it spayed or neutered, that way when it gets out (and it may!) it won’t get pregnant, or make your neighbors mad because it got their dog pregnant.  Take responsibility!

Quick Buck?

If you want to make some fast money - Rob a bank! Otherwise you’re going to have to work for it. But remember if you rob that bank, you WILL get caught! You will have to do your time in prison. Don’t go telling the Judge that Sweetsusieg told you to rob that bank, she told you to WORK for your money! Any time you commit a crime there is a very good chance you WILL GET CAUGHT. So before you head out to do something bad, ask yourself ‘Is this worth the time I’ll spend in prison?’.

Brilliant - NOT

Stupid Law suits

Quit the stupid law suits! They make it hard for anyone to do anything! Taking a shower or bath with your hair dryer is just plain stupid. Obviously someone did it otherwise the tag wouldn’t be on the cord. When I see the 'intended for use' labels I really have to laugh. Why? Because it is obvious to me that some idiot used it for some other purpose and either sued or attempted to sue.

Now the baby beds with the slide up sides are being pulled off the shelves. It’s a guarantee that someone somewhere didn’t pull it up and lock it in place, because they were too lazy. So now thousands of people are out of work.

McDonald's sure gets it's hit from those would-be law suits. Now some idiot parent wants to sue McDonald's because they are claiming that the Happy Meal toys promote unhealthy children. There is one little word these so called parents need to learn ...'NO'... instead of giving in and feeding that screaming child the Happy Meal they are demanding, tell them 'NO!'... How hard is that? In 5 minutes they will have forgotten what they wanted anyway. That's what kids do, try to get their way, if you tell them 'No' enough they'll get the idea that you are the boss. Besides, if the kid really needs the toy, you can buy it for $1.37 WITHOUT the food!

Oh and By The Way... during the week days McDonald's stops serving breakfast at 10:30! Not 10:35, so when you show up late for breakfast and they don't have anything, don't get mad at the workers. It's not their fault you couldn't get your lazy butt out of bed before the crack of noon.

When they run out of nuggets, DO NOT jump through the window at the workers. Good God, use your brain! Unless of course it is your desire to look like an idiot for the whole world on YouTube. We'll all get a good laugh, at your expense of course.

Judges - This is for you. It's up to you to shut down these frivolous law suits. Start charging the Lawyers, instead of 'contempt of court', charge them for being stupid, wasting the Courts time, costing the City, County, State, Country money. In case you didn't know, they bring in these huge lawsuits because they need a new Mercedes. Be the Judge to close those loop holes!

Work

The days of $27.00 an hour jobs for skilled work such as putting a screw in a hole are at the end.  The money train has run out of track, or if you prefer 'Elvis has left the building'.  It's done, it's over.  These days you are actually going to have to do some work to get paid.

If you don’t do your job, show up late, leave early, complain too much or expect others to do your work, you WILL get fired. It’s a given. It may not happen today or tomorrow, but when the company ‘downsizes’ because you haven’t been pulling your weight, your position will be considered ‘replaceable’. Don’t complain, you brought it on yourself.

Just because you have a Union doesn’t mean you should slack on the job. Keeping people waiting while you are taking a break or lunch and they see you do nothing but playing cards will get you into trouble. Complaints will be made to your company, they will take a look at who was responsible and your name will pop up. You have to remember ‘what’ rolls downhill…

When your work is slovenly because you have a hang over from a weekend of partying, don’t complain when the whole crew has to work mandatory overtime to make up for those bad parts.

When you don’t buy the products your company makes and they then go out of business, whose fault is it? Look in the mirror.

E-Mails

When you get that e-mail saying someone from another country is leaving you gazillions of dollars but they have to hide it from their Government and need your help, OH COME ON!!!!  You can’t REALLY believe that crap can you?  1.  How did they get your e-mail?  2.  Why pick you?  3.  Why not give it to a member of their own family?  So when your bank account gets drained, REALLY whose fault is it?  Who was trying to scam who?

Talking or Texting

Talking or texting on your cell phone while driving WILL eventually cause an accident.  Whether it be with your car or you cause an accident, it will happen.  Is that message REALLY worth the damage or possible life you may cause? Or is the last thing you want your friend to hear is Oh My God!, as your car crashed into another and you die?  You really want to leave them with that?

USE YOUR HEAD!!

PEOPLE, USE YOUR HEAD FOR MORE THAN A HAT RACK!!! THAT SPACE BETWEEN YOUR EARS IS WHERE YOUR BRAIN IS STORED!!! USE IT! USE THE COMMON SENSE YOU WERE BORN WITH, IF YOU WEREN’T BORN WITH IT, GET SOME!! In the process, take responsibility for your actions. If you made a mess, clean it up!”

As your kindergarden teacher once told you 'Let's all put on our thinking caps'.  If this has hurt your feelings, then it is obvious to me that somewhere along the line you have lost your common sense and it's time to get some.

I'm certain that I have forgotten many things in my rant on these subject. In the days to come I may find more common sense issues that need discussing!

Feel free to put your complaints below!

“Thank you for listening.”
