The Teen Burden

I work as a School Teacher in Ghana. There is a strong desire to be heard when you interact with the younger generation.

There is a time in the life of every child when we feel of age. It is a period of excitement where every activity mean a lot. We are hyperactive most often during this time of our youthful life.

A day off from any favorite activity seem a time not ending. This is as a result of the enthusiasm with which we participate in social activities.

Inspite of this feeling of being capable of doing good in society, we are often told "you have to be this way or that way" sometimes without considering our thoughts or views. Those are the fundamentals of the environment we find ourselves.

But, had the older society given a second thought to their orders, the unearthed dreams of a wonderful life would be reality.

The pressures of society, the desire to belong, and the apparent neglect of the growing adolescent's imaginative thoughts are the cause of child miscreants. It is worth noting, that society makes us and it's not a question of choice, but that of survival.

The desire to be accepted into a society with its predetermined outcomes. A society that does not give to chance variance that it considers alien. Pushes many fresh lives directly into an apparent want for love and affection to engage in the unthinkable.

In my part of the world, the youngster will always be at fault in any matter regarding the elderly. You must submit to what is known to be tradition. Where you serve without questioning and has little or no say in any issue when the elders speak. And this is what kills creativity in younger generations because you are always afraid to express that opinion about any subject matter.

Many parents and guardians have wondered why their wards suddenly became rebellious. You haven't given enough time to understand the aspirations of such children. Their desire to be free from your 'captivity disguised as parental control' where they feel imprisoned may be the cause.

It's of greater value to understand the dynamics of parenting. A state where children can freely express their excitement and frustrations in matters bothering them before the adult person will be great for child care.

Hear the voice of the child and nurture that innocent soul into a developed individual. Let's make the world a better place for all.
