The Rod: What Is It and Why We Quote Verses About It

Updated on June 8, 2016

Spare The Rod and Spoil the Child

Proverbs 13:24 King James

My personal opinion is that the Bible itself is the Rod. The Rod of God guides us to seek first the Kingdom of Heaven and all things shall be handed unto you. Matthew 6:33

If a child is not taught about the Rod, which is the Bible, it will miss out on the Glories of God and will not know about Jesus telling us that he is the only way to be saved and to be received into Heaven, and therefore his life will be spoiled.

Thy Rod and Thy Staff

King David wrote that the Lord was his Shepherd and that although he was faced with the evils of the world and of death at every step, that he felt no fear, that the Rod, or the Bible, had given him hope and strength and serenity to accept whatever life would put in his path. 23rd Psalm

Who Is Your Daddy?

Jesus's mom was Mary. Joseph was not Jesus's father, but his adoptive father. According to the story, Mary was impregnated by God. If King David is in Jesus's family tree, it is through his mother's side, not Joseph's.

The angels came to the shepherds and announced that a child was born in Bethlehem in a manager and that they brought the shepherds Tidings of great joy. Luke 2:10

This is why we celebrate Christmas every year, because Jesus was born.

King David

King David was responsible for the 23rd Psalm.

Love Your Enemies

In the end, loving your enemies will heap burning coals on their head. If you believe in Judgement Day, know that God is waiting for you and if you believe that Christ has paid the price for your sins, then, all is good.

If you believe that you will not need Jesus for your passage into Heaven, think again. Jesus himself said that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to leave his riches behind and get into heaven.

God is Love

We were raised with songs about Jesus loving the little children. He did not advise anyone to hit them with a rod. He advised everyone to let the children come to him, that they were his.

The Rod Brought Forth Water From the Rock

Numbers 20:8 Moses delivered the people out of Egypt and his Rod was used to get water out of a rock.
