The Sixth Commandment

Updated on October 7, 2013

Where does all this mass destruction come from? Mass murder, Genocide, Spree killers, Suicide, Euthanasia, Familicide, Parasuicide, Law killing, Deliberate massacres; City, train or flight bombings, School hostage crisis... Disobedience of the Sixth Commandment: "You shall not murder ".

Perhaps you may know The Ten Commandments and follow them. Perhaps you are a Christian or just a moral follower. Whatever your faith is or your beliefs are, The Ten Commandments are based on well living.

For those who follow God as their Creator and Lord and accept Jesus as their Savior and Redeemer, The Ten Commandments are the Word of God given to Moses (Exodus Chapter 20) and quoted by Jesus (Matthew 5 :21- 48).

The Ten Commandments are:

  1. Have no other gods

  2. Not make for yourself an idol

  3. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain

  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy

  5. Honor your father and your mother

  6. You shall not murder

  7. You shall not commit adultery

  8. You shall not steal

  9. You shall not bear false witness

  10. You shall not covet

Rules are needed

Wow!...how guilty is the feeling when we really read this with understanding. Rules are necessary and people talk about freedom like if it is about doing whatever they just feel like doing.

When you read The Ten Commandments and read the news, all the struggles, problems and human decadency comes by the disobedience of them or even just one of the ten.

  • Yesterday was the bombing of Guernica in April 26, 1937,
  • then September 11, 2001 attacks in United States,
  • and today 2012 the Colorado theater shooting.

The list is so long, it is like a chain; one thing brings another. Eve said it was the snake's fault...Adam said it was Eve's...I guess the snake said it was the devil's fault. Is there happy endings after one of the Ten Commandments has been disobeyed?

Something has to be done

Who ever the fault is of all these life destructions happening; we have to do something about it. Guilt will just make us a loser! A loser does nothing to be a winner.

We have to start rescuing destroyed lives, stressed citizens and frustrated human beings. We have to start understanding, accepting and following by heart that our freedom ends when the freedom of our neighbors begin.

The Sixth Commandment is the result of uncontrolled attitudes, thoughts and behaviors. The way I see it, is that a fault of one of the other nine gives birth to the possibility of murder. How awful and sad is the cause and effect under this theme.

Think before you act

Think before you act, there is no u turn when a murder takes place. Bringing death is to make a living being be no longer alive. Murdering brings a lack of feeling, movements, sensitivity... deprives existence!

There are so many ways these murdering thoughts come into the human mind and within a blink of an eye they become an act. Many movies, music and games are products of wrong behavior which leads weak humans to destroy God's Creation and become disobedient to natural laws and fall in the darkness of hatred and disrespect of life.

Start doing something

What do we start? We start bringing human beings into this world by love between two people; love of a woman for the baby growing in her womb; love for someone else or an idea that held an abortion (some women do not abort because they just do not believe in abortion, when they give birth they will at least give the baby in adoption), and love for the children being raised.

When do we start? When 1 Corinthians 13: 4 - 7 becomes action in us. When we:Start being patient, kind and not jealous; stop bragging and stop being arrogant, stop acting unbecomingly; stop seeking our own, stop provoking, stop taking into account a wrong suffered, stop rejoicing in unrighteousness, start rejoicing with the truth; start bearing all things, believing all things, hoping all things, and enduring all things .

Where do we start? We start in our hearts loving God and loving our neighbor as ourself.

Why do we have to start? We have to start because there is no greater commandment than the mention in John 13:34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another."

What, when, where and why? It all ends up in one word: LOVE

The golden rule

"In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 7:12). This is the golden rule, for than I ought to trust that the Sixth Commandment will stop being disobeyed and instead we will fight for life!

Jesus said "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect." Matthew 5:48

Blessings to all!
