Today We Buried An Angel.

Updated on March 15, 2011

For Elaine and Mahmut with much love

Today we buried an angel

with a heart so pure and white,

born only yesterday

but to weak, to fight the fight.

Today we buried an angel

to sit at the right hand of god,

to look down on us forever

no flowers placed on his plot.

Today we buried an angel

little white coffin we did see,

cradled in the arms of his daddy

for everyone to grieve.

Today we buried an angel

and all hearts are dark,

his mother, totally devastated

never to walk in the park.

Today we buried an angel

who forever sits and waits,

the arrival of his loved ones

at those heavenly pearly gates.

Today we buried an angel

who everyone will miss,

never to be cradled

never to be kissed.

So grieve as our sister may,

you know deep inside,

that if ever you need to cry

I will be forever, at your side

When it is your time to go

those pearly gates will open,

and the child who comes running

will be always there for you to know

That bright star in the sky

that shines so bright at night,

open your heart forever

be guided by the light.

Because today we buried an angel

with a heart so pure and white,

never to be forgotten

nestling in Gods shiny white.

Karanda thank you so much for your lovely comments. I did post this poem on facebook so as Elaine would read it, and she was very pleased that I had written.

Losing a child is certainly devastating and one of the difficulties of dealing with that grief is that for the most part, people do not know how to help the parents. By sharing your thoughts with this beautiful poem you have not only reached out to them by acknowleging their baby but you have expressed your own emotions. It is the small gestures that go a long way in the healing process.

Thank you Susan, this was a tad hard to write. Not one for poetry I had to dig deep here. Thank you for your comment.

What a beautiful, heartfelt poem about the sad loss of your sister's newborn. I hope the poem brings them a measure of comfort in their loss.

Bluestar, give them this Poem, it says what's in your heart...and they will treasure it, and hopefully give them a small measure of comfort. Beautifully written from your heart.

thank you gr82beme, I wrote this for my sister and brother in law. The death of a baby is devastating and I just did not know what to say to them. A hug and tears didn't say it all but I wanted them to know I cared.

Wow so great. I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a child is the worst thing any human has to go through.
