Wastage

The other day I was in one of the most unlikely places you can ever find me, a jewellery shop! I was looking at the designs and when I was inquiring about the price, I was told an unusual percentage of Wastage being added. I got shocked! Only then I realized, we end up paying for wastage only for jewellery and we don't feel the same for many many other things.

When I happened to be in my grandma's place for complete rest for my knee injury, I realized how much less water can be used for our day-to-day activities. Since we have the tap control at our disposal and we open our think tank in the bathrooms, the amount of water spent is not noticed, how I wish the wastage percentage of water is billed when we get out of the bathroom! Water is definitely more precious than Gold!

In earlier days, previous day's rice was saved for the next day, and it was supposed to have a lot of nutrition. How many of us throw extra rice today, if not to the dustbin, to the cows on the road? Some of us give it to the maids, who in turn throw away the food. Its infra dig for everyone to eat old rice. How many of us feel the necessity to measure and cook? Even though our money is spent already on buying the different essential ingredients for food, I strongly feel here, a billing should be done again for wastage, if for gold why not for food, when millions are suffering without food?

What to do with people who have no common sense to car pool to office which is 20 kms from home? One car for one person? Billing them extra apart from the high petrol price is the only solution to make them realize their wastage of precious fuel.

With a printer and shredder available at our disposal in office, how many of us think twice before using paper? How many of us simply shred even not so confidential documents without thinking about recycling them? A billing machine should be attached to printers and shredders and make people pay for wasting paper, in turn cutting down many many trees.

Apart from the ones that we already pay for, we have many unpaid stuff that we waste - time, energy, even, money. Billing and paying on the spot is the only solution, at least to make people realize the amount of wastage done at different levels.

First and foremost thing, that should be taught to our children is to avoid wastage at any cost at all levels. This is the first and foremost initiative required to make our country a better to place to live in the future.
