You Never Expect...

Updated on January 20, 2013
Source

You never expect to love something

With so much of your core

To feel like you never knew the meaning

Of having something to live for.

You never expect,

To fall so deeply, so quickly,

For a pair of tiny eyes

The depth in them catches you by surprise

You never expect

The pain that came in delivering this love

To fade into a surreal memory

Like you remember the tears and fears and the hours that passed,

And think,

I can’t believe that was me.

You never expect

That you could survive an ordeal like the one

That brought you your perfect little son,

Or daughter, whichever one.

You never expect

The sleepless nights, and the bottle fights,

Doing so much wrong

and so much right.

Feeling like finding patience,

Is the biggest fight of your life.

You never expect

To feel your heart catch in your throat,

As you watch them sleep,

Knowing that if they were taken, you’d create a new meaning to “weep”.

To feel your heart skip a beat,

And swallow deep, and push it all aside,

To take the reins to this lifetime ride.

Because you never expected to be a mother,

To be responsible for another,

And you never expected to love it so much,

That holding them in your arms, makes you feel whole,

And when they are gone,

There exist, a huge hole.

I in addition to my budieds were actually viewing the nice thoughts from your website and so before long developed an awful feeling I had not expressed respect to the site owner for those strategies. The people appeared to be as a result warmed to study all of them and have without a doubt been taking pleasure in these things. Thanks for genuinely quite helpful as well as for settling on this form of superb resources millions of individuals are really desirous to understand about. My very own sincere regret for not expressing gratitude to you earlier.

I adore the intensity of the love that you've managed to convey. A love so intense that it hurts. This applies to fathers too. Beautiful beautiful poem, thankyou.

Yes... Better that they stay young an not have all the things we adults deal with would be much better let it all be fun and trips to the park

Thank you ! Having children is a unique and wonderful experience that cannot be matched by anything else. The bond is just incredible. I look at him and wish so hard that we had thousands of years together. It just goes by so fast! Glad you enjoyed!

Very sweet poem...it shows how deeply connected you are to your son, and how he has truly opened an entirely new happy life for you...it's so special to see the bond shared with our kids and the impact they have really has no explanation, it's just that special...very sentimental, nice job.

I was feeling this poem as I read through it and remembering how I thought these very words when I saw my child. True, too soon they are gone and the hole sometimes reminds us of the love. Voted up and shared!

"And when they are gone, There exist, a huge hole." ---true say.
