Helpful Gift Ideas for a Baby Shower

Updated on October 20, 2014

You're Invited to a Baby Shower

A Baby Shower

I've been to my share of baby showers, being a mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, so I haved attended many, many baby showers. They are lovely little parties with punch and cookies or sometimes pretty little sandwichs and coffee or tea. But the best part is watching the mom-to-be open all her lovely new things for her new baby.

Years ago mom's didn't find out what they were going to have. A boy? or maybe a girl? Back then the gift items would have to remain gender neutral so you saw lots of yellows and greens. In today's world the new mom's usually know what they are having so it is much easier to shop for clothes.

But, there are so many other things that the new mom could use and that is what this lens is all about. Some helpful ideas on what shower gift to get your new mom.

Sophia The Giraffe

Oh my goodness you just have to love her. Actually, Sophia the Giraffe is loved by infants as well as their parents during those teething years.

Sophia is made from 100% organic rubber with non-toxic paints. Look how lovely she is. She has little nubs that were made for the sole purpose of teething. The infant chews and these little nubs massage the gums. Great idea.

Sophia is easy to hang on to even for the littlest of hands.

This teether is the one your new mom (and baby) will reach for every single time. The contrast of the dark spots against the white background will attract the infant's eyes and Sophia is easy to hang on to. Those long legs and long neck make it easy to hold and Sophia is light weight too. An added bonus is when the baby squeezes Sophia she squeeks and that really keeps the baby's interest.

Playing Shower Games

Do you like playing games at baby or wedding showers?

Baby Einstein makes incredible toys for infants and toddlers. They also make great shower gifts.

The Baby Einstein Take Along Tunes is one of my favorites. Let mom introduce her baby to soothing classical music. This easy to hold, colorful Baby Einstein Take Along Tunes has melodies which include Mozart, Chopin, Vivaldi and Rossini. It has large buttons to push with seven high quality, clasical tunes.

Boon Drying Rack

This is a must have gift for the new mom. I don't know how long they have been around but I sure wish I had had one when I was washing baby bottles. Your new mom will think of you everytime she sees this little wonder.

This is a 2 piece drying rack for baby bottles, spoons, binkies and much more. The white bottom holds the water as it drains through the grass and the flexible grass blades hold your baby dishes and bottles. It hold the your bottles upright so all the water drains down to the lower tray. The best part is it is BpA-free, Phthalate free and PVC free.

It looks neat and tidy sitting on your counter while doing an excellent job of letting your bottles dry while upside down.

Really, this is a must have.

The Ultimate Night Light

It's a nightlight. It soothes baby with images against the ceiling or wall. Your baby will love this.

Twilight Turtle projects a night-time sky against the ceiling or wall.

Remember laying outside, in the grass, on a warm summer's night and looking up at the stars. Twilight Turtle lays out the stars on your baby's ceiling. When your child gets older you can identify 8 major constellations with the illustrated star guide which is included with Twilight Turtle. You also get 3 color options of blue, green or amber.

These spoons are just adorable and would make a lovely attachment to your gift package. Tie them onto the bow for a great look.

These spoons are bright in color and have a long handle making them easy to use. They are dishwasher safe and easy to clean. Best of all the spoon part is soft so the baby will like eating off from it.

Don't forget an extra set for the grandma's. That baby will be at their house too!

Sleep Sheep

How adorable is this? This 12 inch tall Sleep Sheep has great features: simple push buttons for sound selection and volume control. There are four (4) soothing sounds from mom's heartbeat, ocean waves, spring showers and the melodious whale songs.

The Sleep Sheep has won numerous awards from Creative Child Magazine and Good Housekeeping to the Editor's choice arard from Baby Talk magazine.

You might want to get one for mom too. I understand these soothing sounds help people of all ages.

Baby Socks and Baby Shoes

Baby Shoes & Baby Socks

Little babes just home from the hospial don't need shoes and even if you do have some they don't stay on those tiny little feet for long. Here are some great "shoes" and "socks" that make wonderful adornments for your baby shower gift.

I like to use this type of gift as a topper for the main baby shower gift. I'll use the shoes and socks in place of a ribbon or bow. Or use curling ribbon and join all the little shoes and socks and wrap around the package. Use your imagination...new moms will love having several pairs.

I like all the diferent names you hear and it seems that some names get real popular for a few years and then another group of names get popular. I'm just interested in what you favorite boy and girl name is.

My very favorite boy name is Michael and my very favorite girl name is Ann. Although these are my favorite names none of my children or 12 grandchildren have these names.
