2011 Pink Floyd the Dark Side of the Moon Cabernet Sauvignon

Updated on August 26, 2014

The 2011 Pink Floyd the Dark Side of the Moon Cabernet Sauvignon is a very good dark cabernet, featuring notes of vanilla, chocolate, oak, currant, and cherry this velvety wine has a great finish. Produced by Wines that Rock in Mendocino, California the 2011 Pink Floyd the Dark Side of the Moon Cabernet Sauvignon tries to emulate the success of one of the best rock albums of all time, and succeeds.

Wines that Rock

The 2011 Pink Floyd the Dark Side of the Moon Cabernet Sauvignon is produced by Wines that Rock in Mendocino, California. Wines that rock released it's first vintage in 2009, taking the unique approach of naming all their wines after famous artists' albums. Crafted by winemaker and vitner Mark Beaman, Wines that Rock tries to encapsulate the essence of familiar records into your glass. Well received by critics and the public alike, Wines that Rock takes a refreshingly new perspective on wine making and branding.

"I can't believe that this is my job. I get to taste wine, listen to music, and think about how to put it all together in a bottle of wine that truly captures the essence of an album."

Mark Beaman (Wine Maker)

Taste

The 2011 Pink Floyd the Dark Side of the Moon Cabernet Sauvignon is a very heavy wine, rich with notes of chocolate, vanilla, and cherry. This unique wine complemented a steak dinner very nicely, while I listened to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. I greatly enjoyed the mouth feel of this win, it has a silky smooth buttery texture that melted in my mouth. The berry notes of currants and cherry blended seamlessly with the more earthen flavors of oak and chocolate. This wine has great legs and an excellent dark hue that led me to have a second glass with dinner. For a newer winery that I haven't tried very many vintages from, I was extremely impressed with the quality in this cabernet. This makes a great wine to serve with red meat for a large occasion, or for late night entertaining by the fireplace. This is the type of wine that makes you want to cuddle up under a blanket and enjoy a good book, it is truly an excellent experience.

4 out of 5 stars from 1 rating of The 2011 Pink Floyd the Dark Side of the Moon

Value

For less than $20 I was astounded at the value in the 2011 Pink Floyd the Dark Side of the Moon Cabernet Sauvignon from Wines that Rock. Especially since I am very picky about my cabernets, I was very impressed with both the flavor and feel of this wine. Full bodied and satisfying, this 2011 Pink Floyd the Dark Side of the Moon Cabernet Sauvignon was much better than many $35 or $40 cabernets I have had recently and it was only half the price. With such a powerful album cover on the wine I was very worried that Wines that Rock was simply using an iconic symbol to sell the wine. Regardless of what is on the label, this wine stands on it's own merit. If you are looking for a great under priced cabernet to stock your cellar the 2011 Pink Floyd the Dark Side of the Moon Cabernet Sauvignon is what you are looking for.
