Ice Cream Tricks: Keeping Your Treats Cold!
This is a great idea for a spectacular dessert for any summer picnic! An ice cream sundae station is the perfect finish for a great barbeque. Worried about a hot day and melted mess? I have a trick that will make sure your treats stay frozen!
Dedicate a cooler specifically for ice cream. A common problem when you keep it in a cooler is that the temperature doesn't stay even because the cooler gets opened and shut so many times. RULE: Do not open the cooler until it is time to serve. Place the icecream inside of 2 insulated freezer bags. Place icecubes in the bags with the cartons and also around the cooler. If you have a fancy cooler that regulates temperature, even better! But contrary to popular belief, you can enjoy icecream that comes out freezer fresh on the hottest of days!
Decorating Ideas:
Before the picnic, take cake or waffle cones and dip the rims in melted chocolate. Then dip in colorful sprinkles and place in the refrigerator to set.
Use blueberries, strawberries, nuts, and shredded coconut for healthy toppings.
Also, make your own popsicles!
Blend vanilla yogurt, crushed ice, and a few tsp of sugar. Add food coloring down the sides of popsicle molds for stripes or to individual portions of the mix for block colors. Freeze until ready! (Use dixie cups if you don't have a popsicle mold!)
