Do Smoothies Offer Health Benefits?

Smoothies are awesome and many people, young and old, enjoy them for the taste and the health benefits. In a world where there seems to be not enough time, getting your daily dose of fruits and veggies couldn't be easier. The smoothie craze is in full force and a lot people are claiming that smoothies promote weight loss, pain management, energy boosts and general good health. Is there any truth to these claims?

Green smoothies provide minerals and vitamins. But experts say people who have diabetes or kidney stones should be careful about what they mix into their smoothies. It's the protein powders, creams and juices that you need to be aware of. These additional smoothie ingredients add extra carbohydrates to your drink, which will quickly turn into extra calories. Drinking green smoothies, as well as other types of smoothies will increase your fibre intake and keep you hydrated. So get yourself a good quality blender and start making some delicious concoctions. I will be highlighting easy green smoothie recipes, healthy fruit smoothie recipes as well as smoothies for kids and smoothies for breakfast.

Easy Green Smoothie Recipes

Loaded with antioxidants and vitamins, these raw green smoothie recipes are a quick and easy way to get in your daily intake of greens. Also, green smoothies as opposed to green juice contain more fiber. Green smoothies increase energy and weight loss as well as overall improved health. Some critics of the green smoothie diet claim that oxalate content of some greens can cause kidney stones and worsen yeast overgrowth; goitrogens exacerbating thyroid issues; and fiber wreaking havoc for those with leaky gut, irritable bowel, and other digestive issues. With everything you hear these days, it's best to take these claims with a grain of salt. If all you the food you consumed in the day were green smoothies, then yes, I think there might be a problem. Anyways, green smoothies are great for your health and if made right, they can be delicious.

Great hub, thanks for sharing these recipes along with the reasons why the various ingredients are good for the body. I try to eat as many fruits and veggies as I can in a day but smoothies are definitely an easy way to incorporate more. For some reason, I'm a little leery of combining fruits and vegetables into one smoothie but I'm going to conquer my fear and try some of your recipes!
