Each person ventures in the process of cooking is an artist, striving to bestow perfection to his/her creation. Like every other art, the motto of cookery is to "give utmost enjoyment" and each artist of cookery shall have some basic qualities like any other artist, i.e., love for this art form, interest in its process, patience and caring for the enjoyment of its patrons.

Art of cooking or cookery becomes an important aspect nowadays as the world is now shrunken into our fingertips, boundaries of taste also broken down from its regionalization and everyone strives every day for newness and change.

What is the best way to learn cooking?

According to me before leaning to cook, we must have the passion to cook and the patience to learn its process. We should know the taste of food that we prefer to cook. Then, we will have to recognize the ingredients in the food we taste. Once knowing this, we can start with cooking the dish for the first time. May be the quantity of the ingredients may vary, but as we practice it once or twice with certain corrections in the quantity of the ingredients, there will be improvements in our cooking and as time passes by, we will be the best of the best of the best cook.

Art of Kitchen Designing

Now, the first and most important thing to learn before art of cookery or cooking is a kitchen, as this is the place where you will be able to learn this beautiful art. Here comes also the need of kitchen designing.

Until some years ago, people did not pay much attention to kitchen interiors and in fact it was the room that received the least importance when it came to decorating, but times have changed. Though one may not get to spend a lot of time in the kitchens these days, it is always nice to work in a kitchen, which emanates harmony and peace and this can be achieved with little effort and thought.

Colour of your kitchen:

The colors of fresh ripe fruits and vegetables are soothing as also full of vitality. So you could use tiles with bold blocks and circles in colors of red, orange, yellow and green against a crisp white background. The white will help tone down the other vital colors and make the entire effect soothing to the eye.

There is no need to be too regimental or symmetrical. Uneven shapes and patterns have a charm of their own. You can further elevate the look with color accents in the kitchen furniture, equipment, and other kitchen accessories.

Flooring of your kitchen:

Kitchen is one room of the house where the chances of water splashing onto the floor are very high. Therefore, the floor tiles should be such that one does not easily slip over them. Also, it is always better to choose tiles that can be easily cleaned.

Furniture for your kitchen:

It is always better to keep the kitchen units plain and simple in style, so that they are easy to use. For the cabinets you could choose in one of the colors of the wall tiles with sleek streamlined handles. It is always advisable to have black granite work tops - they are not only easy to clean but they add to the entire look of the kitchen. The dining furniture should also be un-fussy yet fun, the shapes of the table and chairs echoing the patterns painted on the wall tiles.

Lighting for your kitchen:

There should be plenty of light in the kitchen as well as ventilation. Use lights that are bright but at the same time do not hurt the eye.

Tips to become King of Kitchen

Kitchen is also a place to be well-managed like any company, offices or other institutions. If things are done orderly and promptly, cooking automatically becomes a creation of art.

Labeling containers

As most of us are depending upon powders now for cooking, our kitchen has a good storage of various types of spices powders. How do you identify these powders while cooking? By smelling or color?

Some people have the habit of labeling containers by the name of its ingredients. It's a good habit. Here is a tip for labeling: Cut out the name of masala or spice from its packet for, e.g., "sambar powder" and stick it on the container with glue or cello tape.

Keeping List of finished stuff

You are about to splutter mustard in curry. Only when you open the mustard container, then you realized it is finished. Many of us put to this kind of dilemma many times, isn't it. Buy a packet of adhesive small notepads easily available in market. Stick it on the wall of your fridge, kitchen wall, or some other easily accessible place. Keep a pen nearby this pad, hanging. When you find any kitchen stuff finished at once, write it down on the note pad. You can take this note along with you while you go out for shopping.

Thick sourless curd

Many of us don't know how to make a good curd so here is the process.

The milk to prepare curd is to be little bit warm. If you place the milk at sim or slow fire for a pretty long time, the result will be more better to thickened milk or else you can mix some milk powder - 1/2 teaspoon per glass of milk - to the milk. Then pour just one teaspoon of curd to the vessel in which curd is to be made. Remember more curd will spoil curd-making. Rotate the vessel, so that the curd is applied on every part of the vessel. Now slowly pour in the lukewarm thick milk. In this way, you will get the best homemade curd you ever had. I guarantee!!!

Kitchen Cloth

I always like to have a lot of kitchen cloth. It is better to have minimum one for wiping the vessels and one to wipe the kitchen counters on any day. This is just a minimum to have for a day. We can have some 6-10 sets of kitchen cloths so that we keep changing it daily. It will be hygienic also. Another tip is that we can fold a small kitchen towel near the sink where we rest our stomach and wash vessels. Most of the times we end up wetting our clothes. This small piece of cloth will make it better.
