Baked Macaroni and Cheese casserole recipe
INGREDIENTS
2 cups elbow macaroni

1 small onion
| 2 cups milk
|
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
| 1/2 pound cheddar cheese, grated
|
1 tablespoon flour
| 3/4 cup fresh bread crumbs
|
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
| 4 teaspoons melted butter or margaine
|
3/4 teaspoon salt
|
DIRECTIONS
Cook and drain macaroni. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Put cooking spray on 1 1/2 quart casserole.
Combine flour,mustard,salt and dash pepper.
Mince onion, combine with 2 tablespoons butter. Cook over low heat. When butter is melted, add flour mix. Slowly stir in milk. Cook until smooth and hot, stirring often.
Place grated cheese in the milk/flour mixture. Stir until cheese is melted.
Combine macaroni and cheese mixture in casserole.
Toss bread crumbs with 4 teaspoons melted butter, sprinkle over cheese.
Bake, uncovered, about 20 minuted.
OPTIONAL Add 1 cup chopped ham to macaroni and cheese for a ham casserole.
