If you love bratwurst, this is the only way to fix them. If you have a local butcher where you can purchase fresh brats, its worth the extra money. This recipe also works with regular store bough meat.

Cook Time

Prep time: 15 min
Cook time: 35 min
Ready in: 50 min
Yields: 10 bratwurst

  • 2 lbs fresh bratwurst
  • 2 onions, sliced thin
  • 1 C butter
  • 6 12 oz cans of beer
  • 1 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 10 rolls
  • brown mustard
  1. In a large stock pot., combine beer, butter, and onions. Prick the bratwurst with a fork to prevent them from bursting while cooking. Add to the stock pot and simmer over medium heat for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Go ahead and preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  3. Lightly grease the grill grate with a cooking spray. Grill the brats for 10-15 minutes turning to help them cook evenly. Cook until skin is a dark brown color. Remove from the grill.
  4. Serve on fresh hoagie rolls with brown mustard and chopped onions.
