Best Chocolate Kahlua Trifle Desert Recipe & Other Variations

Updated on May 12, 2014

Chocolate Trifle Desert Recipes

The basic Chocolate Trifle recipe calls for a boxed chocolate cake. You may purchase whatever flavor of Chocolate cake you like, I prefer devils food. You will also need Cool Whip, Chocolate Pudding and Chocolate Toffee Candy bars. Some people use Toffee chips instead of candy bars, but I use Heath or Score candy bars, which gives your desert a much better chocolate flavor. I have had people ask me why mine tastes so much better. It's the candy bars.

This is just the basic Chocolate Trifle. Below this basic recipe, I have listed other variations that add an additional ingredient to give it a whole different flavor. Beginning with the Kahlua version, which is my favorite.

These recipes are all really delicious and chocolaty without being super sweet. I get more compliments and never have to bring home leftovers when I make one of these deserts.

Chocolate Trifle Recipe (Basic)

Ingredients:

  • 1 - Box Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 2 - 5.9 oz. Boxes Chocolate Pudding Mix
  • 1 - Lg Tub Cool Whip
  • 6 - Heath or Score Candy bars

Directions:

Bake Chocolate cake according to directions on box, let cool. Cut cake into small squares, about 2x2 inches. Prepare Chocolate pudding according to box directions, chill in refrigerator. Place Candy bars in a plastic bag and crush into pieces.

Use a large see through bowl to layer this desert in. It looks so much more impressive, as you can see the layers. If you don't have a nice big see through bowl, I use my punch bow, it is perfect for this desert.

Layer the desert from the bottom as follows:

  1. Cover bottom with cake squares
  2. Spoon pudding on top of cake
  3. Sprinkle with Candy Bar crumbs
  4. Spoon Cool Whip over Candy Bar crumbs
  5. Repeat till you reach the top of bowl
  6. Top layer should be pudding with some cool whip
  7. Sprinkle top with Candy Bar crumbs

Can't get enough of this stuff.
