Cookbooks to Go With Your New Slow Cooker

Why Buy a Slow Cooker?

I received my first slow cooker as a Christmas gift decades ago. (Yeah, I'm old.) At first, I gave it a once over and then put it on the counter. I used my Hamilton Beach slow cooker a couple of times. It made great soups. Mostly, though, my slow cooker gift gathered dust and took up valuable counter space in my kitchen.

Skip ahead a few years. Now, instead of one kid, I have two with another on the way. It's miserably hot outside. I'm eight months pregnant. We have no air conditioning. And yet, the kids still insist on being fed!

A light bulb went off. I remembered my old slow cooker. I bet it wouldn't heat up the kitchen! But soup in the summer? It didn't seem too appetizing.

So I started leafing through my cookbooks. It turned out, I could make more than just soup in a slow cooker. I could make much, much more. And so began my love affair with the under-appreciated slow cooker.

I have learned that even tough, cheap cuts of meat turn out fork tender when they are prepared in the slow cooker. Nothing beats a slow cooker for times when you know it will be hectic all day and you will be too tired to fix dinner. Pop something in the slow cooker in the morning and come home to the delicious aroma of your meal that awaits you.

Hamilton Beach slow cookers are probably the most popular and best-selling slow cookers. The brand has proven itself over the years. Hamilton Beach is a respected, well-known company. Below is more information about Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker Stay or Go models.

Side note: If you are used to the old slow cookers from the 80s, these new-fangled slow cookers take some getting used to. Many people complain that the new models cook too hot. After my old Christmas gift slow cooker finally gave up the ghost, I went out and replaced it. Sure enough, the new model cooked at much higher temperatures than my old crock pot. At first, I hated it. But after some adjustments and getting used to the new slow cooker, it still remains one of my favorite kitchen appliances.

I'd love to hear some of your favorite recipes for slow cookers if you don't mind sharing. I just rediscovered mine. I'm waiting to see how my first corned beef turned out (the second time I've used the crock pot in a week after not taking it out of the closet for over 5 years.
