Cake Decorating for Cupcakes

Cupcakes are fun little cakes that deserve to be decorated just as much as regular cakes. Presentation is everything if you are planning to sell cupcakes or serve them at parties. You don’t have to be a master chef to create beautiful designs, you just have to know the simple techniques in cupcake decorating.

                Children’s Cupcakes:

It isn’t hard to make cute looking cupcake for kids. Here are a few tips to help you get started-

For little girls, use pink frosting and icing, or other bright colors you can think of. Bye ready made flower icing. Cover the cupcake with the pink or any colored icing, sprinkle with edible powered gold, then place the flower on top of the cupcake. It’s as easy as that.

Now for little boys, it can be a little tricky. If you want it to be personalized, then you have to get a little creative. Look for cartoon logos that are easy to copy. For example, the Batman logo. Surround the cupcake with white icing, then start shaping the Batman logo with black icing.

Remember, there are many edible toppers out there you can buy if you are in a fix. You just have to know where to look.

Now we move on to adult themed cupcakes.

Use gumpaste- Gumpaste is very versatile. They are similar to clay the way you can shape them any way you want. Find little cookie cutters to help you in designing. Gumpaste is very soft so it won’t have any problem with cookie cutters. You can shape the paste into a basketball, cover the cupcake in green icing or frosting, and you can make yourself your own basketball court. Use toothpicks and edible rings to make your hoop.

If the cupcakes are for Halloween, then candy is very useful. Use small balls of candies for eyes, use thin icing for lining the mouth, and shape some soft chocolate to make into fangs or horns. If you want special characters for your cupcakes, just find pictures of famous scary characters and copy them. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just get the correct colors and familiar features. You are all set for Halloween!

Make cupcakes look like miniature sceneries! You can use gummy bears as your little people, add small flowers and green frosting to make a garden.  Let them seat in M&Ms to Add to the cartooney effect.

There are also simple designs that are made to look very appetizing. All you have to watch out for is the color combination. Use icing, sprinkles, and frosting to your advantage. Cover your cupcake with icing, make a swirl with the frosting, and then cover it with sprinkles. When done right, the colorful cupcake will look cute and appetizing because of so much sweetness. It will be a sure hit with all your guests.

Always let your imagination run wild when it comes to decorating. You can always to a trail and error to perfect your designs, but also make sure to make your cupcakes taste good an not only look good. Hope you like my simple guidelines, dear reader!
