Crockpot Chicken and turnips
Slow cooked Chicken and turnips
This is a hearty and flavorful dish that I make for dinners the prep time is about 15 minutes and cooking time is at least two hours. serves 4-8 people.
What you will need
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
4-6 medium size turnips cubed into bite size chunks
1 medium onion halved and sliced
3 whole carrots sliced
2 stalks of celery sliced
3/4 cup fresh sliced mushrooms
1 tsp minced garlic
1 chicken bullion cube
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/8 tsp celery seed
1/2 tsp Cajun spice Zatarain's preferably
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/8 tsp garlic powder
2 dashes liquid smoke
salt to taste
water
The cooking process
Place uncooked chicken breast in crock pot or slow cooker, add all spices and vegetables. Add enough water to just cover over the ingredients. Cook on high for about 1 hour then reduce heat to low. Remove the chicken breasts and shred the chicken return to the pot. Continue cooking on low for at least 2 hours or until vegetables and tender. To thicken up the broth add A couple tsp's of cornstarch to a little bit of cold water and mix in about 10 minutes or so before you are ready to eat I usually allow this meal to cook on low for about 4-6 hours and the flavor is wonderful. This meal is best served over steamed rice.
