Delicious Mouth-Watering Crab Curry
Best served with rice, roti or fresh unsliced bread for a bunny chow soaking in its beautiful juices.
Served with a side of pickle or a carrot salad
Cook Time
Cleaning and preparing the crab prior to cooking is very important, here are the steps to follow
Ingredients
- 4 xl orange crab
- 2 onions, chopped
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 8 tomatoes, grated
- 2 tablespoons masala
- 2 teaspoons turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoons cumin powder
- 2 teaspoons coriander powder
- 3 teaspoons tamarind
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 3 green chilies, optional
- 3 red chilies, optional
- 6 tablespoons oil
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Substitution:
- tamarind may be replaced, with lemon juice
Instructions
- Tamarind must be diluted in ¼ cup warm water during preparation time, unless substituting with lemon juice
- Heat oil in a large pot
- Braise with onions, adding the spices
- Add masala wait for 2 minutes to sizzle, then add ginger and garlic paste
- Add the crab pieces, cover with lid and cook for 10 minutes on moderate heat
- Add in grated tomatoes, curry leaves, chilies and tamarind juice
- Add salt and sugar, cover and leave for 25 minutes
- Switch off stove
- Garnish with coriander
- Leave on stove, allowing to simmer
- Ready to serve
