Dining with Dad - A Fun & Easy Way to Make Pepperoni Pizza Rolls with Your Kids
Bonding with your kids over food!
Skip the fast food and spend some time making fun food fast with your kids. This is a great project to do with kids ages 4-10.
With working late, sports practice here, dance practice there, scouts and other activities everywhere, it's getting harder and harder to enjoy meals together.
For less than the cost of the average pizza delivery, everyone can make their own unique pizza rolls over some fun family conversation.
- 2 packages/tubes crescent rolls, garlic, regular, jumbo
- 8oz-16oz shredded cheese, mozzarella, italian blend, cheddar
- 1 package sliced pepperoni
- Assorted Veggies (mushrooms, green peppers, onions, etc.), grab them from the salad bar at your local grocery store
- 4oz-8oz pizza sauce, (optional)
Family Time, Fun Time, Dinner Time
Start pre-heating the oven and gather the kids around the table or island in your kitchen and let the fun begin. Kids LOVE to open the pop-tubes of crescent rolls. Once the tubes are open, carefully unroll the dough and get the kids started on their edible creations.
To keep it simple the first time or two, stick with traditional pizza toppings for ingredients. We usually make a handful of pepperoni and Italian cheese blend garlic rolls, a few broccoli and cheddar rolls, and some rolls with mushrooms, green peppers, and the Italian cheese blend.
The beauty is, we grab most of the toppings from the do-it-yourself salad bar at our neighborhood grocery store. They are pre-cut, pre-washed, and there is little prep time involved this way.
So, with an unrolled crescent roll in front of each person, take a few pepperoni slices, a pinch or two of cheese, and lay them out on the roll. Once positioned, start at the wide end of the triangle and start rolling to get the crescent shape. Place on a cookie sheet and make another.
Get creative! Challenge your kids to try new combinations. Ditch the pepperoni for veggies to make it healthier.
Keeping it Simple, Fun, and Healthy
The rolls are baking... now what? Keep the kids entertained with "smilies" (fresh cut orange wedges, fruit faces (strawberries and grapes from the do-it-yourself salad bar), or my favorite, strawberry-banana sundaes before dinner. Yep, you heard that right... BEFORE dinner.
Strawberry-banana sundaes are really quick and easy... and healthy. Slice ripe strawberries and bananas into a large coffee cup, add a little whipped cream, mix, and serve.
