Dragon Fruit is an elegant,exotic fruit. The fruit is red or yellow in colour. The plants are native of South and Central America. Now it can be see in South East Asian countries also.
The Dragon Fruit plant is a member of the cactus family but it can produce beautiful succulent juicy fruit and also growing well in dry areas. The edible inner fleshy part is red, white, or pink in colour with very small dotted seeds like kiwi. It is also known as Pitaya fruit or Pitahaya fruit.It can use as juice or in cocktails and beverages.It is good to eat with ice-cream. It can add in fruit salad.
The Dragon Fruit Plant blooms only at night. The flowers are very beautiful, aroma filled and whitecoloured known as “ Moon Flowers”. It blooms for only one night. This peculiar flower is about 14 inches long. So the plant is nick named as “Queen of the Night”.
How to eat Dragon Fruit -: Simply cut into two halves. Scoop out the flesh with a spoon. The skin is scaly and not an eatable part. The middle part of the fruit is sweetest than the other parts. So it is good to keep that part seperately and can eat last.Seeds can be eaten together with the flesh which are high in lipids.
