How to prepare Dried Fish Chutney
I learned making this Dried Fish Chutney, also known as Unakka Meen Chamanthi Podi in Kerala from my friend Bindhu. This recipe uses dried fish and coconut as main ingredients. You may use good quality dried fish or dried prawns to make this yummy chutney. When prawns are used it is called chemmeen chammanthi.
How to make Dried Fish Chutney? Given below are the ingredients and method of preparation of this yummy Chutney.
Ingredients
- 250 grams good quality Dried Fish
- 2 cups of grated Coconut
- 6 shallots chopped
- 2 tsp chopped ginger
- 10 dried red chillies
- Seedless tamarind the size of an amla
- Curry Leaves
- Salt
- Oil
Method of Preparation
Soak the dried fish in water for half an hour. After that wash the fish and dry the fish off water. Now heat around 4 tsp Oil in a Kadai and fry these fish till they get a golden brown color. Once done, remove the fish from the oil and keep aside. Now add rest of the ingredients in the oil and fry them till the coconut becomes golden brown in color. If necessary you may add a little more oil for frying. Remove the ingredients from fire and allow cooling. Grind the fried dried fish and the other ingredients and grind it to a coarse powder. This chutney is an excellent accompaniment for rice.
